We established The Real Adventure Company in 2014 with a clear mission – to offer more personal, less commercialised outdoor adventures that tap into the untamed spirit and wild freedom of the West Wales coast.
After 25+ years of working with larger adventure centres in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, we felt the pull to create something of our own. As a small, family company, we create more authentic, thoughtful, and nature-led outdoor experiences shaped by our deep love for these shores.
We are Pete and Lyn Ward, owners of The Real Adventure Company in St Davids, and passionate believers that everyone deserves the chance to step away from it all and experience the wild magic of the Pembrokeshire Coast – even if it’s just once.
We both share a profound connection with the sea and coastal habitat of our magical corner of Wales. When we’re not leading adventures, you can still find us cliff-jumping into foaming surf or taking a barefoot stroll on a quiet sandy beach. There’s something deeply grounding about this coastline, a kind of wild therapy that helps you let go and feel more like yourself again.
Pete is our lead guide and was raised in the heart of Pembrokeshire (local legend has it he was born in a rock pool on Druidstone Beach)! This wild, craggy coastline has been his playground since he was a boy.
A favourite family pastime was “going along the bottom”, a daring combo of rock scrambling and wild swimming designed to see how far you could get along the base of the cliffs before falling in. Not that we used any wetsuits back then – just some old trainers and a pair of shorts. (Don’t worry – we make sure you have all the right kit now!)
Doing what we love every day is amazing – being able to share it with you is even better.
Unlike many other adventure providers, we don’t have any plans to grow larger. At The Real Adventure Company, we prioritise quality over quantity, keeping things small and personal.
We don’t run on a seasonal schedule, and no two adventures are the same. Every session is shaped around your energy and what you’re looking to get from the day.

We run everything from our quiet little farm and campsite in the heart of the Pembrokeshire countryside just outside St Davids, Britain’s smallest city. We’ve got plenty of parking for day visitors as well as tent, caravan, and camper van pitches if you want to book a stay at St Davids Camping.
With us, you get the best of both worlds – playful coastal adventures and a scenic, chilled-out retreat where you can kick back and escape from it all.

Pete started exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast as a young child in the 70’s and quickly developed a strong connection and intrigue for the coastal environment and open ocean. Realizing at a very young age that his destiny was to be an adventure guide, sharing his lifelong passion, and enthusiasm for the Pembrokeshire coast.
Lyn from a teaching background and a lifelong passion for exploring and Adventure, moved to Pembrokeshire in the 00’s and immediately fell in love with the area, a new classroom had materialized before her very eyes… a classroom with no boundaries or limits.
We only employ the very best of the best…Our Freelance adventure guides have lived in Pembrokeshire for decades and all share our passion for providing high quality experiences and making every day count. We all take great pleasure in sharing our knowledge and experience with you, our customers.
